Facebook on Wednesday announced it’s piloting new tools in India which will prevent misuse of profile pictures<\/span>. The social giant said that the feature was unrolled after feedback they received from users in India. The new feature gives more control to users by limiting who can download and share their profile pictures.<\/p>\n

Aarati Soman, Facebook<\/span> Product Manager, announced the new Photo Guard tool, aka Profile Picture Guard. Additionally, she revealed Facebook is additionally introducing designs to profile pictures which the company’s research has shown helpful in deterring misuse. The feature is predicted to rollout to users in additional countries soon which suggests that this may be exclusive to users in India for a few time. Facebook says users in India will start seeing a step-by-step guide to feature an optional profile picture guard. Once applied, the profile photo can not be downloaded, shared, or sent during a message on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Additionally, people that aren’t friends on Facebook won’t be ready to tag anyone, including themselves, in your profile picture. Facebook also says that it’ll prevent others from taking a screenshot of your profile picture on Facebook where possible. This feature is currently available only on Android devices.<\/p>\n

With the new Photo Guard, users who choose the new tool will see a blue border and shield around their profile pictures as a visible cue of protection.<\/p>\n

If you’re excited about Facebook’s new photo guard feature then follow the below steps to secure your profile photo. Note, not everyone are going to be ready to see the feature immediately, because it remains being unrolled slowly within the country.<\/p>\n

Method 1<\/h3>\n

Refresh your News Feed, and you’ll see a message (pictured below), prompting you to assist Protect Your Profile Picture<\/p>\n

  1. Tap activate Profile Picture Guard<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. You will then see a screen explaining the advantages of the Profile Picture Guard<\/li>\n
  3. Click Next<\/li>\n
  4. You will then see your current profile photo, complete with the shield symbol, with the option to\u00a0Save<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Method 2<\/h3>\n

    1. Open your Facebook profile.<\/li>\n
    2. Tap your profile photo<\/li>\n
    3. You will then see the choice (pictured below) to show on profile picture guard<\/strong><\/li>\n
    4. If selected, you’ll get the choice to save<\/strong> lots of , then see your profile photo with the shield symbol<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      As for the power to feature a design to your profile photo, the choice shows up as a prompt on your News Feed, a bit like Method 1 above. you’ll see the message Add a Design to Your Profile Picture<\/span>, followed by the choice to feature Design. Once you tap this, you’ll then select from a variety of design overlays, then click Next<\/strong>. The steps are pictured below.
