If your PC is crashing, refusing to start, or acting weird, entering Safe Boot is often the fastest way to diagnose and repair things.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"811\" data-end=\"1046\">I\u2019ve walked through this dozens of times \u2014 sometimes under panic, sometimes during calm maintenance. You\u2019ll know something\u2019s different: the desktop will look more spartan, and many features will be disabled.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2199\" data-end=\"2202\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2260\">\ud83d\udea8 Method 2: Force Safe Boot When Windows Won\u2019t Start<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2262\" data-end=\"2362\">Sometimes Windows is broken <em data-start=\"2290\" data-end=\"2298\">before<\/em> you can open msconfig. That\u2019s when this method saves your neck:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2262\" data-end=\"2362\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16855 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.kaashivinfotech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/safe-boot.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"554\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kaashivinfotech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/safe-boot.webp 675w, https:\/\/www.kaashivinfotech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/safe-boot-300x204.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.kaashivinfotech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/safe-boot-380x259.webp 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"2364\" data-end=\"2716\">\n<li data-start=\"2364\" data-end=\"2393\">\n<p data-start=\"2367\" data-end=\"2393\">Shut down your PC fully.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2394\" data-end=\"2514\">\n<p data-start=\"2397\" data-end=\"2514\">Turn it on. As soon as you see the Windows logo or manufacturer logo, press the Power button to force shutdown.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2515\" data-end=\"2604\">\n<p data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2604\">Repeat that 3 times (i.e. try to start \u2192 force shutdown \u2192 try again \u2192 shutdown).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2605\" data-end=\"2716\">\n<p data-start=\"2608\" data-end=\"2716\">On the 3rd time, Windows should detect something\u2019s wrong and boot into the Recovery Environment (WinRE).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2718\" data-end=\"2732\">Once in WinRE:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2734\" data-end=\"2965\">\n<li data-start=\"2734\" data-end=\"2809\">\n<p data-start=\"2736\" data-end=\"2809\">Go to <strong data-start=\"2742\" data-end=\"2806\">Troubleshoot \u2192 Advanced options \u2192 Startup Settings \u2192 Restart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2810\" data-end=\"2885\">\n<p data-start=\"2812\" data-end=\"2885\">After restart, press <strong data-start=\"2833\" data-end=\"2838\">4<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"2842\" data-end=\"2848\">F4<\/strong> to enable Safe Boot (Minimal).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2886\" data-end=\"2965\">\n<p data-start=\"2888\" data-end=\"2965\">(If you need network, press <strong data-start=\"2916\" data-end=\"2921\">5<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"2925\" data-end=\"2931\">F5<\/strong> for <em data-start=\"2936\" data-end=\"2963\">Safe Boot with Networking<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2967\" data-end=\"3040\">This method has come in handy when I couldn\u2019t even reach my login screen.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2967\" data-end=\"3040\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" administrator), you can force Safe Boot mode from the command line:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3225\" data-end=\"3235\">To enable:<\/p>\n<div class=\"contain-inline-size rounded-2xl relative text-token-text-secondary flex items-center gap-4 rounded-sm px-2 font-sans text-xs\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"overflow-y-auto p-4\" dir=\"ltr\"><code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">bcdedit \/set {default} safeboot minimal<br \/>\n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"3290\" data-end=\"3347\">Then restart your PC and it will boot into Safe Boot.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3349\" text-xs\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"overflow-y-auto p-4\" dir=\"ltr\"><code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">bcdedit \/deletevalue {default} safeboot<br \/>\n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"3445\" data-end=\"3513\">I like this method when I\u2019m scripting fixes or doing remote repairs.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3515\" data-end=\"3518\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"3520\" data-end=\"3555\">\ud83e\udde9 What to Do While in Safe Boot<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3557\" data-end=\"3620\">Once you\u2019re running in Safe Boot mode, here\u2019s your toolkit:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3622\" data-end=\"3926\">\n<li data-start=\"3622\" data-end=\"3698\">\n<p data-start=\"3624\" data-end=\"3698\">Uninstall recently added software or drivers (these often cause issues).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3699\" data-end=\"3748\">\n<p data-start=\"3701\" data-end=\"3748\">Disable startup programs that might conflict.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3749\" that might be inaccessible in normal mode.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3928\" data-end=\"4042\">I once removed a faulty graphics driver while in Safe Boot \u2014 after rebooting normally, my
